Hand Made Sfakian Cinnamon & Orange Sweet Bites
These light cinnamon and orange rusks are absolutely delicious with a lovely crisp texture. They are made with natural local ingredients from the Sfakia region of Crete, on the south central side of the island, and have a touch of sweetness with subtle flavors of cinnamon and orange. They are excellent with our many herbal teas, coffee or on their own, and are also an excellent accompaniment with a variety of cheeses, figs, and fresh fruit.
The Dourountakis sisters make their delicious rusks from recipes passed down from their grandmother, who came to Sfakia from Samaria, the dramatic gorge on the western side of Crete, as a young lady to be married. She often told them: "If you want, my children, to do something good, do it with your hands." They followed her advice and make their rusks by hand, with natural ingredients and no preservatives, thus preserving the traditional flavors of Sfakia, one of the most remote places in Crete.
