Ikaria, Greece’s famous Blue Zone island, is remotely situated in the eastern Aegean Sea. This singular territory is globally recognized for its exceptional honey that is believed to promote longevity.
We carry three distinct varieties of Ikaria Honey:
Pine & Wildflower, which comes from bees that forage on the native Ikarian pines (pefko) and numerous indigenous herbs and wildflowers. This dark, luscious honey is complex with notes of buttery caramel, resin, honeycomb, molasses and wildflowers.
Anama & Pine, which comes from bees that forage in an area where the famous heather (anama) and native Ikarian pines (pefko) grow together. Raw and cold-packed for us by a local Ikarian family, this thick and rich honey has notes of herbs, resin, flowers, and a hint of butter caramel. It has a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, but less sweet than typical commercial honey.
Anama, which comes from bees which forage exclusively on the famous Ikarian heather which grows in dense patches in the high elevations on the island. This uncommonly thick honey exhibits notes of beeswax, sassafras, burnt sugar, bourbon and toasty oak with a slight medicinal finish. It is the least sweet of the three.
Klio Greek honey is designated single-origin. It is sourced from specific locations with unique terroirs which result in highly sought-after, exceptional types of honey prized among the Greeks. Collected and packaged on-site by local beekeepers, this limited-supply honey is pure and unprocessed: raw and unpasteurized, never heated, minimally handled.
